Lecturer Mark Iris begins his Levy Lecture, The Burge Affair: A Look Back from the Front Row.

On October 10, lecturer Mark Iris brought his audience on a historical journey through the Chicago Police Department’s checkered past.

Nearly 100 Levy seniors attended the second fall lecture, The Burge Affair: A Look Back from the Front Row.

Iris, the former executive director of the Chicago Police Board, focused on allegations of torture against former CPD Commander Jon Burge and others in the late 20th century.

The Levy Lecture Series is new to the Center this year and has been a stunning success. Our seniors like to keep up with timely topics & delve into local history – that’s why it’s free & easy to register for Levy Lectures.

It’s also why our lectures hit capacity quickly, so be sure to mark your calendars & register soon!

There are two remaining lectures for the Fall Series. On November 14, Leslie Goddard, PhD, will present her research and book in her lecture, Remembering Marshall Field’s.

Ava Thompson Greenwell, PhD, brings her journalistic expertise to the Lecture Series on December 12 with her notably timely lecture topic, Media Consumption in a Polarized and Politicized Time: What the Typical Citizen Needs to Know.

Registration is currently open for both lectures. You can sign up on our website or at the Levy Senior Center front desk.
