Magnificent Collaboration: Julia Morgan & William Randolph Hearst
Annette Baldwin, former editor at Chicago American Institute of Architects
California architect, Julia Morgan, produced 700 buildings in her 50-year career, more than any other major architect. In spite of her vast output of architectural gems in divergent styles, it is Hearst “Castle” at San Simeon for which she is best known.
The collaboration of Morgan and her inimitable client, William Randolph Hearst, is a remarkable story of an impulsive, over-budget collector and a temperate, brilliant architect, who teamed up to create one of the world’s most elaborate building projects.
Annette Baldwin takes us on a dramatic visual journey of astonishing talent and personal drive, resulting in an American palace by the sea.
